Sri Lanka down Zambia in Men’s Rugby Sevens

The Sri Lanka Men’s Seven-A-Side Rugby Team produced their best performance to beat Zambia 27-14 in the semi-finals for the 13th place at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England yesterday.

The Tuskers took the initiative and ran down in five splendid tries during a dominant performance and conceded only two goals to their opponents after having led 10-7 at half time.

Utility player Nigel Ratwatte planted two tries while D. Chandradas, Tarinda Ratwatte and B. Nanayakkara scored one try each with Mithun Hapugoda adding the extra points to one try.

D. Chimbukulu and A. Mwewa scored a try each for Zambia with L. Mukosa and B. Mbalwe converted one try each.

Sri Lanka are  now set to take on Jamaica in the 13th place playoff while the Sri Lanka Women’s Team will meet South Africa for the seventh-place playoff. Susil Premalal reporting from Birmingham
